Description

Lower School Lead Teacher

 

 

The lower school teacher is a full-time teaching position that reports to the lower school principal. This teacher is responsible for the education of children in literacy, social studies, and math. 

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Provides diverse learning experiences and teaches Wesleyan’s curriculum.
  • Collaborates with other grade level teachers to implement, enhance, and assess teaching content and developmentally appropriate instructional methods. 
  • Establishes and maintains high standards of student and classroom management.
  • Evaluates academic and social growth of students and keeps appropriate records and assessment data.
  • Communicates with parents through a variety of means.
  • Holds parent conferences to discuss individual student progress and develop student goals and learning plans.
  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other teachers and school counselor in assessing and helping students solve behavioral and learning difficulties.
  • Maintains professional competence through embedded staff development activities provided by Wesleyan and/or professional growth activities and university courses.
  • Selects and requisitions instructional materials; maintains inventory records and classroom cleanliness.
  • Communicates with and oversees a full-time teaching assistant (TA) regarding responsibilities and expectations.
  • Chaperones all field trips and special class activities, such as holiday parties, Donuts for Dad, Mornings with Mom, and the end of the year party.
  • Directs the grade level play with other teachers. Coordinates with parent volunteers, attends all rehearsals and performances, and rehearses lines and blocking with students.
  • Corresponds with class coordinators to communicate and coordinate class activities.
  • Participates in all trainings, grade level, and faculty meetings.
  • Follows all policies and procedures as mentioned in the Wesleyan Faculty Handbook.

  

Qualifications

 Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.

  • Orton-Gillingham training required; certification preferred.
  • Current Georgia Educator’s certificate.
  • Strong grounding in the Christian faith.
  • Enthusiastic, energetic, and service-oriented person who loves working with children.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and always willing to help others.
  • Strong technology skills and knowledge of current educational software.
