High School Theater Director

 

The high school theater director actively and intentionally uses theater to further the mission of the school. The high school theater director is the primary ambassador of the theater program to the Wesleyan community. They set the vision and expectations for the overall program (5-12) and are responsible for developing the students and theater artistic staff in their care. The high school theater director reports to the director of fine arts.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

The high school theater director will:

  • Lead an artistic team in producing three high school productions each school year (including at least one musical).
    • Artistic team includes assistant director(s), technical director, assistant technical director, music director, choreographer, costume coordinator(s), parent volunteers, etc.
  • Serve as a mentor/ role model to high school theater students, sharing knowledge, skills, and guidance.
  • Work closely with technical director and assistant technical director to:
    • Design, build, light, and amplify three high school productions.
    • Coordinate the use of assets between Powell and Lencke Theaters.
    • Ensure performing spaces are properly outfitted with updated equipment (i.e. – lights, sound boards, shop equipment, etc.).
    • Ensure high quality and safe construction of stage settings for all events in Powell and Lencke Theaters.
  • Work with the middle school theater director to:
    • Coordinate annual theater productions (three high school productions; two middle school productions).
    • Ensure complimentary play selections.
    • Facilitate best use of assets and staff.
    • Mentor and support the middle school theater director and students, as needed.
  • Assist in preparing students for theater opportunities outside the campus environment, to include:
    • Assistance in portfolio development.
    • Assistance in monologue preparation and audition preparation.
    • Provide advice for students interested in future theater careers.
  • Teach up to three high school classes as assigned.
  • Lead high school mentor programming and DEAR programming module as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Demonstrated experience working with youth.
  • Theater experience in both educational and professional settings is preferred.
