Horticultural Assistant

Job Description

The horticultural assistant will provide support to the Grounds Department through specialized landscape maintenance services including planting, pruning, chemical and fertilizer applications, and equipment maintenance.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Daily scouting of landscape materials to identify problems
• Recommendations and applications of treatment plans and schedules to address issues
• Perform horticultural related maintenance of trees, shrubs, flower beds and ground covers
• Keep landscape and grounds free of debris
• Maintain accurate records of fertilizer/chemical applications
• Institute IPM practices through specific pesticide applications
• Assist with evaluation of existing plant materials and make recommendations for improvements
• Assist in ordering plant materials and ordering annuals
• Also will assist Grounds with maintaining and prepping fields for games and practices
• Assist Grounds and Facilities as needed with special events
• Attend continuing education opportunities related to the horticultural industry
• Occasional weekend/after hours work

Qualifications

• Must have a working knowledge of horticultural processes and practices including application of fertilizer and chemicals
• Must have solid knowledge of cultivation, care and pruning of plants
• Clear and effective verbal and written skill
• Ability to work independently with keen eye for detail
• Knowledge of plants, annuals, trees, shrubs, and weeds native to the Southeast

Education and Experience

• Associates or Bachelors degree in Horticulture
• Horticultural experience preferred
• Valid driver’s license
• Have or obtain a Georgia Pesticide Applicators License
