Director of Athletics
(Reports to Assistant Head of School for Advancement)
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establish a clear mission and philosophy of athletics that is consistent with the Christian mission and philosophy of the school
- Set the vision for the Athletic Department
- Encourage the development of all athletic programs within the framework of the school as a whole
- Recruit, train, and supervise head coaches
- Oversee and support the school’s all sports booster club, Wolf Trackers
- Ensure stewardship of the school’s overall athletic budget and facilities
- Supervise the athletic training department and athletic strength trainer
- Supervise assistant athletic directors and office personnel
- Encourage professional development for all coaches, as well as the athletic department staff
- Communicate summer needs with the Director of Auxiliary Programs and Outreach
- Oversee and develop the school intramural program under the direction of the Director of Auxiliary Programs and Outreach
- Encourage and educate the student body on good sportsmanship
- Oversee all records to ensure athletic alumni files, records, awards, and college athletic participation are accurate
- Oversee the use of all athletic fields and buildings
- Monitor athletic eligibility and GHSA rules compliance
- Ensure all athletic publications and materials are produced
- Maintain visibility at athletic practices, competitions, and functions
- Maintain the school’s profile as a leader among independent schools by regular attendance at professional meetings
- Oversee the development of the athletic program from kindergarten through high school
- Attend regular administrative meetings
- Teach one class
QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous athletic administration experience either as a Director or Assistant Director
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
- In-depth understanding of a K-12 independent school
- Organizational skills
- Team player and encourager
- Attention to detail
- An advanced degree and certificate in athletic administration is preferred as is the NIAAA Certified Athletic Administrator designation.
